Pattaya Bars Shutdown Over Covid-19 Coronavirus

On March 17th the local Chonburi Government ordered all entertainment venues in Pattaya to close till the end of March due to concerns over the Coronavirus. The move is designed to help slow the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.

People are reminded to follow guidelines to help keep themselves and others from getting sick. Wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds, practice social distancing by keeping 6 feet between yourself and others, avoid large gatherings, and if you need to cough, do so into your elbow, not your hands.

While the shutdown of bars in Pattaya is a necessary step to help stem the spread of the virus, it will no doubt have a dramatic effect on the local economy and bring a harsh end to an already slow high-season. It is likely many of the establishments are going to be dramatically impacted and we will have to wait and see if all of them are able to reopen due to the financial impact.

Looking at the pattern of shutdowns across the world and how long entire cities have had to close due to the Virus, one can only hope that two-weeks of does not need to be extended. Heavily effected areas like the Wuhan province in China have been under lock down for months. Let’s hope Pattaya and Thailand as a whole doesn’t need to go this route.
